The NECPA has several components. The first is a thorough self-assessment of the program by management, staff, and parents to determine how closely the NECPA standards are being met. The second component is an action plan to address weaknesses. The third component is an on-site visit by a trained NECPA Verifier. Facilities participating in this program have become knowledgeable and taken steps to reduce children's exposure to pesticides, lead hazards, radon, asbestos, mercury, mold, vehicle exhaust, chemical fumes, respiratory triggers, and more. In addition, many have started recycling programs, developed formal written plans for chemical management, make efforts to purchase items made with recycling content material, and reduce energy usage at the facility. USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program plays a vital role in improving the quality of day care and making it more affordable for many low-income families. Each day, 2.9 million children receive nutritious meals and snacks through CACFP. The program also provides meals and snacks to 86,000 adults who receive care in nonresidential adult day care centers. CACFP reaches even further to provide meals to children residing in emergency shelters, and snacks and suppers to youths participating in eligible afterschool care programs. Learn More...
