Kendallville Day Care Center Toddler & Twos program uses the Creative Curriculum, a theory and research based curriculum and the Indiana Foundations to the Academic Standards for Young Children Birth to Age 5, to intentionally develop and implement the classroom environment and bi-weekly experience plans. Our approach to developmentally appropriate teaching promotes optimal learning and development for each individual child. We follow these principles:
- Provide a welcoming, nurturing environment with positive interactions and relationships with adults, while meeting each child’s basic needs
- Supporting physical and brain development through constructive and purposeful play.
- Fostering social-emotional competency by learning about the child’s own feelings and the feelings of others, building relationships with peers, and interacting in group settings; all factors in future school success.
- Developing relationships through family partnerships to promote development and learning.
It is not just play! Purposeful and productive play is positively related to memory development, symbolic thinking, positive approaches to learning, positive social skills, language and literacy skills, and math skills.
Through these principles we are fostering 36 developmental and learning objectives to ensure our youngest learners become life-long learners.
The ratio of teacher to child is 1:5 and 1:7 (ages 2.5 +).
