fueling growing minds

During the first five years of life, a child’s brain and body develop at an astonishing rate. The food they eat directly impacts their daily energy, their ability to focus, and their long-term health. At Kendallville Day Care Center, we believe that building a healthy relationship with food is just as important as our educational curriculum. We prioritize nutrient-dense, delicious meals that give your child the foundation they need to learn, play, and thrive.

Proud Participants in the CACFP

Personalized service tailored to your unique needs.

To guarantee the highest nutritional standards, Kendallville Day Care Center is a proud participant in the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Being part of this federal program means our meals and snacks aren't just planned—they are strictly regulated to meet science-based nutritional guidelines. When your child eats with us, you know they are receiving healthy food that is fueling their bodies and minds.

What's on the Menu?

Our CACFP Guidelines

Under CACFP standards, our daily meals and snacks are carefully portioned and crafted to ensure children get exactly what they need. Our menus feature:

  • Fresh Fruits & Vegetables: A colorful variety of fruits and vegetables are served daily, ensuring essential vitamins and minerals. Juice is limited to 100% pure juice, served no more than once a day.
  • Whole Grains: At least one serving of grains each day must be whole grain-rich, providing sustained energy and important fiber for healthy digestion.
  • Strict Sugar Limits: We strictly limit added sugars. Cereals and yogurts served at our center must fall under specific sugar thresholds to prevent sugar crashes and promote healthier palates.
  • Age-Appropriate Dairy: We serve unflavored whole milk to one-year-olds to support rapid brain development, and unflavored low-fat or fat-free milk to children ages two and older.
  • Lean Proteins: Meat and meat alternates (like beans, eggs, and yogurt) are served regularly to support muscle growth and development.

By exposing children to a wide variety of healthy, CACFP-approved foods in a positive, social setting, we help them build healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.
